The foundations to the Victoria and Albert Museum, the V&A for short, were laid by Queen Victoria in 1899. The museum’s focus is on decorative arts and design, and its collections span over 5,000 years of human creativity in virtually every medium (ceramics, glass, textiles, costumes, silver, ironwork, jewellery, furniture, medieval objects, sculpture, prints and printmaking, drawings and photographs). Housed in one of the finest groups of Victorian and modern buildings in Britain, the V&A is constantly changing and adapting its collection modifying how it can best be presented in order to enrich people’s lives. The V&A also promotes research, knowledge and enjoyment of the designed world with an emphasis placed on accessibility.
