The Walt Disney Concert Hall was inaugurated in downtown Los Angeles in 2003. It was designed by Frank Gehry and bestowed as a gift to the people of Los Angeles by Walt Disney’s widow, Lillian Disney, and stands as a tribute to his devotion to the arts. Home of one of the world’s preeminent orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic (L.A. Phil), this concert hall is designed to be one of the most acoustically sophisticated in the world. Having heard the L.A. Phil rehearse for the first time the music director, Esa-Pekka Salonen, is reported to having happily said that "Everyone can now hear what the L.A. Phil is supposed to sound like." From the innovative curved stainless-steel exterior and the stunning wood-panelled main auditorium, to the magnificent acoustics, the Walt Disney Concert Hall embodies the unique energy of Los Angeles and its signature orchestra and is worth a visit no matter who's performing.
