Sustainability:
- Installed 1,500 energy-efficient and motion-sensor activated LED lights. This new lighting system uses 80% less electricity than the system it replaced
- In process of installing a grid-tied solar PV system to generate up to 40% of total electricity
- Staff recycles garden and kitchen trimmings, coffee grounds and shredded paper and adds them to the eight earthworm farms. The materials eventually turn to compost, used in Ellerman gardens
Community interactions:
- The establishment of Click Learning; a non-profit education initiative that deploys online literacy and numeracy programms in under-privileged primary schools across the country. These programms currently reach over 170,000 learners in 220 schools and have created over 560 jobs for youth facilitators
- Since 2011, Ellerman House has opened its doors to host the annual charity art auction, ArtAngels, for the benefit of Click Learning. To date, this events have raised over 26 million for education in South Africa
