The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art was founded in 2008 by Dasha Zhukova and Roman Abramovich. It is the first Russian institution to work so extensively with contemporary art and its extensive programming reflects current developments in both Russian and international culture. Additionally, it has a unique collection of works mapping the development of Russian contemporary art from the 1950s through to the present. As a visitor you can enjoy film screenings, concerts, performances and the Garage Bookshop which offers books, magazines, and souvenirs produced in Moscow, including some unique ones made in collaboration with artists. Garage has moved around a few times but is now permanently located by Gorky Park in Moscow, in a building designed by Rem Koolhaas utilizing the former structure of the historical 1968 Vremena Goda (Seasons of the Year) Soviet Modernist restaurant.
